The happenings in the NICU...

The last couple weeks have been hectic with Stephen going back to work, trying to keep up with milk for the babies, and trying to get things done around the house. Due to the unexpected early birth, our dining room and living room were still filled with all the gifts from the baby shower. We are slowly but surely clearing out those rooms. Many things have happened during the last couple weeks. Here is a summary of all the happenings in the NICU...

Both girls are doing very well. Here are some quick updates on them:
- Riley was placed on the C-PAP for several days since her airways were collapsing
- Riley has since been removed from the C-PAP and is doing well
- Riley was placed under phototherapy since her billyruben levels were high (jaundice)

-Riley removed from phototherapy after a couple days
-Alexis received blood transfusion since she was anemic (normal for premies)
-Alexis received daddy's blood since both were a match
-PIC lines were removed (these lines were used to feed, provide nutrients, and vitamins)
-Both are receiving full feedings - currently at 30CC every 3 hours
-Both are holding temperatures but will remain in the incubators for another week
-Riley had an eye infection, but it is being treated with antibiotics
-Riley was slightly anemic so shots are being given to produce red blood cells (transfusion may be necessary)
-Both are wearing t-shirts/gowns (their already in matching outfits!)

Alexis

Riley

-Both girls are around 3 pounds 10 ounces (they like to stay around the same weight)
-Alexis is approximately 15 3/4"
-Riley is approximately 16"
-Both girls are experiencing reflux and are receiving drugs to help reduce this
-Reflux is causing some Bradycardia (heart rate drop) and Desats (low blood oxygen level)
-Mommy and Daddy have been getting a lot of experience changing diapers and other hands on experiences (taking temperature, weighing, giving baths, etc.)

And the girls did not forget about Daddy's birthday. See the presents they gave to him:

Here are some other really cool pictures:

Daddy's ring fit on 4 of Riley's fingers!!!

The week ahead...

-The girls will be getting their first eye check-up
-The girls may be moved from the incubators to a bassinet (that they will share together)
-Mommy and daddy working on the babies room
-Babies room is almost complete and pictures are posted below

And of course we need to show you our first family photo...
